ATOMIC THEORY AND STRUCTURE WRAP-UP
It has been so much fun watching your students play Electron Configuration Battleship and Atomic Theory and Structure Heads Up games to review Unit 3 vocabulary and skills this week. They have done a wonderful job helping each other learn and practice, and I hope they have realized how important it is to actively engage their brains in review for a content-vocabulary-heavy course. They're taking the Unit 3 Common Unit Assessment (CUA) today in class, and so far the kids seem more confident and prepared than usual. That's a great thing! They are definitely working hard and taking advantage of the resources available to them as we enter the more challenging topics in the second semester.
The Unit 3 CUA will be the first grade of the 3rd marking period, to allow time for make-ups and retakes next week. The deadline to retake quizzes, make up tests, or submit late work from Marking Period 2 is today at 4:30 p.m.
BOHR MODELS DUE BY FRIDAY 1/22
This week I met individually with each student to review their Bohr Model Plan. In this way, I was able to check in with them to ensure the accuracy of their electron configuration, make sure they understood how and why electrons in the Bohr Model fill shells in specific amounts (2, 8, 18 ... ), and discuss the theme for their protons, neutrons, and electrons.
I have a few bins of Bohr Model supplies in my classroom and have been providing them to students on a first-come, first-served basis. If I'm out of wire at the end of the day today, I will apologize to any students who missed a full wire supply and let them know what to buy at Michael's, AC Moore, or Wal-Mart.
Students may bring their 3D, scaled, hanging Bohr Models to Room 200 any day next week - Tuesday 1/19, Wednesday 1/20, Thursday 1/21, or Friday 1/22. The final deadline, then, is Friday, January 22nd, which was extended from this past Wednesday, January 15th. Please do not let your child wait until the last minute to work on the Bohr Model. It will require planning, problem-solving, patience, and time. I do not want any tears to be shed - by them, by you, or by me!
As always, students may reach out to me via email or Schoology message if they run into questions this weekend.
Have a happy Friday!
