It’s hard to believe that a week from now I’ll be sending you my last email update of the 2015-2016 school year. Time flies when you’re having fun!
Our full focus in Foundations of Science has been and will continue to be preparing for Wednesday’s Final Exam. I need 83 more good minutes of focused, in-class studying . . . plus whatever review your students choose to do on their own . . . in addition to their 100 minutes of Final Exam time this week. Students have done a great job this past week working together on our Vocab Review, Concepts Review, and Skills Review. They have used a variety of strategies—flashcards, Quizlet, review packets, notetaking, drawing, and discussing—which has been great to see! I have reminded students to make sure they are studying actively and accurately – keeping their brains engaged and checking their work using the answer keys available on Schoology. On Friday, I recommended that students should attempt each of the four Practice Finals (Nature of Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Ecology) on Schoology at least once before Tuesday’s class so that they can see where they stand and ask me any questions they have during our full class period Tuesday (or after school Tuesday during ACT). Our Final Exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and 1 open-ended essay question. During Friday’s class, we played “Guess the Essay,” brainstorming overarching themes from Chemistry, Physics, and Ecology. Students came up with three big ideas—classification, equilibrium, and change—that have recurred throughout the year. They should be prepared to write about one of those three themes on Wednesday, providing explanations and examples from Chemistry, Physics, and Ecology. Any “NS” assignments for the 4th Marking Period should be turned in by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th. Students will submit all review materials Wednesday before taking their Final Exam. These will be the last grades of the 4th Marking Period. Thank you again for your continued support! Your children have worked SO hard and learned SO much this year. I am excited for them to show what they know this Wednesday! Have a great week! |
